Dvorák: Symphony No. 8
Korngold: Violin Concerto
Tchaikovsky: Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture

Charles Mutter, Associate Leader of the BBC Concert Orchestra, performs Korngold’s delightfully romantic violin concerto.  Perhaps less well-known, this work nevertheless deserves the limelight because of both its enchanting beauty and exciting virtuosity.  The composer’s Hollywood film music scores of the 1930s provide many of the expressive melodic themes.  None will disappoint the listener.  Tchaikovsky’s “Romeo and Juliet” opens the concert.  It is a symphonic poem with depictions of Friar Lawrence, the warring Capulets and Montagues, and the star-crossed lovers.  Cheerfully lyrical, Dvorak's eighth symphony draws its inspiration from Bohemian folk music in direct contrast to the more stormy seventh.  We are very grateful for the support and sponsorship of Ovation Finance.
